20,000

I began seriously blogging when I realized my husband just wasn’t going to go forward with the divorce he started in 2008.  I decided to “shut my mouth and write” to get the pent-up feelings out.  My therapist encouraged me to express how I felt through writing, so I ran with it.

Since beginning this blog through the guidance of my writing professor, I have shared many pieces of my life, ranging from short stories both fiction and non-fiction to college and my personal life dealing with divorce.  Some people have supported me, others have shot me down.  Either way, I enjoy sharing little slices of my life.

Tonight my blog hit 20,000 visits and I am thrilled to know that number of people read what I write.  It is every citizens right to have freedom of speech.  My freedom is being trampled on and put under a microscope because I write my opinion of my future ex-husband and his string of girlfriends.

Am I seriously concerned about what others think?  Uh, no.  Should writing my thoughts and opinions cause me to lose the joint custody of my daughter?  Uh, no.  My blog is my opinion and everyone gets to have an opinion.  People give their opinion on my writing, my life, my choices, my past and my future.  Even my husband’s girlfriend gives her opinion of me and I don’t bat an eye.  Why would I?  It’s just HER opinion.

I have broad shoulders and thick skin.  Bring it on!

Thank you for reading my blog.  I realize it is entertaining to others and I hope it is insightful and educational at the same time.

Laugh and cry with me,

The Hellbound Heart

I just received my reading/movie assignment for Literature of Terror class.  The list to pick from was huge so I decided to pick an author I recognized, other than Stephen King.  King is the most popular pick in this class and only one student could choose a King novel.  I didn’t want to be that person.

I recognized the name Clive Barker from my highschool years reading “Fangoria” and “Gorezone” magazines with Brian Brillhart and Scott Rouscher.  Horror movies appealed to me back in my teens, now they just give me nightmares.

I did some research on Clive Barker and his novel “The Hellbound Heart” to find out what movie would tie in.  I’m not sure why I chose this title out of all Barker’s books other than it seemed to ring a bell in my life.

To my surprise it was a movie I saw back in highschool, at a marching band party.  I had only watched it with one eye open and ran out when things became very bloody.  The movie I’ll be watching again, 24 years later, writing a report and giving an oral presentation…

Now all I have to do is find it on DVD and keep both my eyes open!

Nightmare prone,

Vampires and Cults

careful, I bite

My first day of school went well.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have classes all day with a short break for lunch.  Mondays and Wednesdays classes are from 10 AM to 1:30 PM and Fridays I have NO classes.  Sweet!

Two of my classes really stick out are New Religious Movements and Terror in Literature.

The NRM class is very interesting and a graded project is to create our own religious movement….or cult.  I’m leaning towards the alien approach. 😉  I’ve had this professor for two other religion classes and enjoyed her style of teaching.  This is the first time she has offered a NRM class and I’m looking forward to learning more about religious groups formed from the 20th century on.

The Terror in Literature class covers fiction from H.P. Lovecraft to Stephen King with the month of October dedicated to vampires.  This is a 300 level class and there is so much reading and interpreting of novels that it might scare some students off.  Good thing I don’t scare easy!

Maybe I can combine my classes and study vampire cults!

Hurricane Agnes 1972

The most damaging category 1 storm in history

The news is all over Hurricane Irene.  Mother natures fury has been set loose in two different ways this week, an earthquake and a hurricane.  The earthquake was a first for me.  I was outside hanging laundry and didn’t feel anything.  There were many people who did and I’m thankful there were no deaths.

Harrisburg

The first hurricane I experienced was Hurricane Agnes in 1972.  I was two and have no memories of the actual storm that caused so much damage.  My family made home movies of the flood and took many still photos.  I would post some but they are all packed up right now.

no doubt...the 70's

Hurricane Agnes was the costliest natural disaster in the United States at that
time. Damage was estimated at $3.1 billion and 117 deaths were reported. Hardest
hit was Pennsylvania, with $2.1 billion in damages and 48 deaths, making
Hurricane Agnes the worst natural disaster ever to hit the state. The damage
over Pennsylvania was so extreme, the entire state was declared a disaster area
by President Richard Nixon.

York City

Agnes poured as much as 18 inches of rain in two days. Flooding and fires
destroyed 68,000 homes and 3,000 businesses, leaving 220,000 Pennsylvanians
homeless.

In Harrisburg, Gov. Milton Shapp and first lady Muriel Shapp were rescued by
boat from the flooded governor’s mansion.

I doubt a canoe was used to rescue the governor

Its printing press nearly submerged and offices flooded, Harrisburg’s morning
newspaper, The Patriot, did not publish on June 23 for the first time since it
opened in 1854, said Dale Davenport, the editorial page editor of what is now
The Patriot-News.

No one was safe….not even Jesus’s sheep.

As Hurricane Irene passes through I pray everyone has a safe refuge.  Mother Nature is a force not to reckon with.  I believe these earthquakes and floods are signs of the end of days.  No, I don’t know when the last “day” is, no one does, but there is a last day coming.

Run between the drops,

Not received

I called the assistance office this morning because I still haven’t received notice that the funds are available for my college books.  My newest case worker (I’ve had at least 10 now) advised me they had not received my funds request.  I told him that was not possible because I went from the college bookstore with the voided receipt directly to the assistance office, sealed it in an envelope and wrote “special allowance” on the damn envelope and dropped it in the mailbox IN PERSON.

How is it possible for them to lose it within their building?  If people ran their businesses like the state runs its assistance program, all businesses would fold.  I know for a fact the proper paperwork was dropped off, yet they have no record of it.  I have enough bullshit going on in my life without the state adding to the stinking pile!

I ran into York College to get ANOTHER copy of a voided receipt for my books but the bookstore had closed at 11 AM.  Summer hours are much shorter at the bookstore.  So now I have to put it off until Monday, even though I already did this once, and HOPE my funds come in time for me to buy my books before classes start.  College books are not cheap and I appreciate the state’s assistance, but they need to update their system because it’s to easy for the multitude of caseworkers to lose important information dropped off by clients.

No book needed for Square Dancing,

Interesting Mix

Checking out my schedule for fall at York College of PA, I am amazed at the choices I have in my education.  Being an English major I just love anything that requires reading and writing.  Most students hate the reading and writing required during college.  To me, the English language is fascinating.  It has rules concerning how words are formed and used, yet contradicts itself over and over.

You remember the i before e except after c rule right?  Also, how words become plural and really don’t follow any set rule.  House become houses, yet mouse become mice.  Many words are spelled the same but have different meanings or sound the same but are spelled different.  English is just a confusing mess and I believe considered the hardest language to learn.  I feel fortunate to know and understand English.

My upcoming classes are Spanish I, Literature of Terror, Cults: New Religious Movements, Writing in Professional Cultures, Art in Sculpture and finally, Square Dancing.  Spanish is a repeat of the summer class I took and passed with a C.  I don’t feel prepared for Spanish II so I chose to repeat Spanish I.  Square Dancing is a gym credit and will wrap up the required 2 credits I need for physical education.  I hope square dancing is as much fun as recreational shooting.

My meaty classes are Literature, Religion and Writing.  Scary books are my favorite so I determined Literature of Terror should be an awesome class.  I am very interested in religion and just couldn’t pass up the new class Professor Christa Shusko was offering.  A class about new religious movements and with the year 2012 approaching, the timing couldn’t be better!  Finally, my writing class covers writing on the internet, web design etc.

I am pumped up and can’t wait for classes to start.  My thoughts and energy is being wasted on stressful things like court, divorce and future ex-husbands.  I’d much rather read and think about scary stories and religion!  Keep an eye out for my articles in The Spartan!

Ready to hit the books,

Food Poisoning

It wasn't the sandwich

Two nights ago my sister, nephew and boyfriend were over visiting.  It was getting late in the day so I offered everyone a simple meal of lunch meat sandwiches.  This meal didn’t turn out so simple.

As a side, I scooped Reeser’s Amish macaroni salad onto everyone’s plate.  We all ate it and over the following two days, we all became sick.  There is no doubt in my mind it was the macaroni salad because we had different meats on our sandwiches.

I had just wrapped up my summer math class only to poison myself that evening.  Food poisoning is no joke.  For two days I could barely move without throwing up or having the poops.  Thank God I had an A in my summer math course and didn’t have to take the final.  I would have barfed my way through it.

When in doubt, don’t eat anything that just doesn’t taste right.  I know that sounds silly, but the macaroni salad didn’t taste bad, just a little off.  Well, it wrecked all four of us for two days!  I didn’t even turn on my computer for those two days!  What does that tell ya?!

Keeping things down now,

~P.

Get ya coming and going

This afternoon a friend of mine, Butch Yater stopped by with the decals he made me for my car.  He did a great job as a favor to me.  If anyone needs detailing work done, give Butch a call!  (717-881-2234)

Poem by a Psycho

Wrote during Psychology Class

Limitless

He is hunky

LIMITLESS

Based on the book “The Dark Fields”

This was a movie about a writer who takes a clear pill and in 30 seconds this pill gives him the ability to “know what to do” in his life to survive.  Eddie began taking these pills and always knew what to do next…eventually by taking more he could predict the future.  Eddie was one funny guy, and the movie was excellent.  Actor,  Robert DeNiro really added to the intensity of the flick.

I related to Eddie struggling to survive and liked how he felt free to achieve.  Of course, that was a movie.  🙂  He jumped off a cliff somewhere in the world (well, a stunt double did) and suddenly knew what he wanted to in his life and who to do it with.  I won’t be jumping any cliffs.  Parasailing and jumping out of a perfectly good airplane was enough on my bucket list.

There are so many things I want to achieve in life.  Raising my daughter is most important right now.  I’m thrilled how things are going with Dale and Tesla really likes him too.  I guess Dale and John will have to meet soon.  Whenever John brings it up, he is welcome to meet Dale.  I prefer this over John calling Dale or showing up at Dale’s business.  John is known for doing these sorts of things.  I recommend hanging up on John actually, but I’m sure some people want to talk to him.

Anyway, the movie was great.  Watch it if you get a chance.

Still waiting….limitlessly, for a divorce.
