Dover Blacksmith Shop

Today was the last opportunity until next year to see Eli Nikkanen demonstrate blacksmith skills at the Dover Blacksmith Shop on Butter Road.  I happened to see the sign indicating the shop was open so we stopped by to check it out.  Dale, Susan and I were fascinated by all the history in that little shop!

Multiple car accident~Corner of Canal & Intermediate Rd Dover PA

A minor fender-bender I witnessed while out taking photos.  Interestingly, someone took photos of me leaving.  I’m not sure why.

No apparent injuries, no EMS on scene.  One officer on sight, and one drove by.  There seemed to be a large amount of people affected, but not hurt.  ~P.

The Founding Days Dover PA

I began a Facebook page dedicated to Dover, PA and have been posting single pictures for people to enjoy.  I decided to do a few posts and add the pictures of that time period so they are all located in one place.  Most of these photos range from the 1700’s to the mid 1960’s.

The pictures can be found in “Sands of Time” or “A History of Dover Township”  ~P.

National Night Out~ Dover PA

A huge thank you to the Northern Regional Police Department, Dover Township, Dover Borough and the Dover Fire Department for the successful, National Night Out in Dover.  This was the second celebration for Dover and the rain held off for hundreds of people to come out and socialize at the fire department on Canal Street.

Weaver’s ~2 N. Main Street Dover, PA

My fascination with old houses and buildings began very young, maybe 6 years old, and has only grown since.  This house has been one of my favorites ever since I was a little child.  Originally the Weaver house, with the “home dressed meat” shop around the corner on 7 West Canal Street, the house has had dramatic changes from when it was first built at 2 North Main Street.

Harry C. Lehr remodeled this house into the beautiful home it is today.

This house is sometimes referred to as “the gingerbread cottage” and is said to be the best place to watch the annual Halloween parade.  The property, including Weaver’s Butcher Shop is for sale.  Mr. Weaver is looking for a new butcher to take over the business, and keep fresh meats available in Dover, PA.

The house and all the property it includes is listed for $236,900.  Listing Agent: Charles Krotzer– ReMax Patriots

485 Buck Road Dover PA

Built in 1975 with native cedar wood and stone, this house has five bedrooms and three baths, located on ten and a half acres of land in Dover, with a beautiful view from a top the mountain.  The house was listed by York Real Estate for $950,000, but is no longer on the real estate market.

Beautiful house on the inside and out.  ~P.

The Barn at 1655 Poplars Rd Dover, PA

Dale and I were out yard saling again Saturday.  He looks for broken computers and I look for history.

It was rainy on and off, not prime weather for yard sales.  One that was open rain or shine was at Al Budrow’s home on Poplars Road.  He recently moved to Dover after buying the property from Dallas Weigle, descendant of the founder of Weiglestown.  Al said he bought the house because he fell in love with the barn.  I asked permission to photo the barn and he was happy to oblige.  It was Al’s yard sale that I bought prints of historic York and about 500 copies of newspapers also from York, and to my surprise,  a few from New York and Philadelphia, all dating in the mid 1960’s.

Enjoy the photo gallery of Al’s barn.  For more photos of Dover, PA visit my Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/YouKnowYoureFromDoverPaWhen
