Play Doh Mushrooms

Tess and I broke out the play doh to entertain ourselves.  I’m on drain duty, making sure my bedroom/basement doesn’t fill with water.  Joy.

So what a better way to pass time…Play Doh.  We created a mushroom farm on my bookshelf.

Cheap play doh…sucks.

Roots, rot and wrecks

Forensic Bridgeology Report.  Bull Road. Warrington Township  PA

Angry fingers grasping the dirt

B: Forest-The trees bare their roots against their will.  Water and ice rise during the rainy, cold seasons tearing away the life supporting soil.  Roots tear out of the ground like fingers, desperate to keep hold of the dirt.  The fingers are of many hands, twisted, deformed and arthritic.  Clinging to their last chance of life.

D Roadside:  People drive to fast on country roads.  Country roads are tricky for city slickers.  They are also quite tricky for drunks.  One particular tree along Bull Road stands out among the rest.  This tree suffers many scars from drivers who just didn’t navigate  that curve correctly.  It’s not that difficult to menuver but just as you take that itty, bitty curve and start to straighten the wheel, out of nowhere this tree suddenly jumps out and bites your car on the passenger’s side.

R: Active decay- Nature has a way of recycling herself.  Giant pine trees that once towered over the creek now lay on the forest floor.  The felled pines have been there for decades, maybe longer.  The remains of a pine tree are ugly, bug infested and decaying.  The branches are bare of bark and poke out like skeletal arms of different lengths.  Perhaps fending off the decay thats slowly returns the body, back to the ash it was born.

More sections of forensic report to come!

I used to camp…then the Sheraton became toughing it.

Nothing like camping, the fresh out doors, monster mosquitos and no where to shower. My ex-girlfriend and I used to take the boys camping in Blaine, PA. It was so beautiful there and not over crowded. We had tents and sleeping bags. Took most of our food along with us and had a feast for every meal.  My favorite snack was toasted marshmallows.  Not burnt, just toasted.
Camping in Blaine, PA actually started with my first husband Gary. We would go with a big group of people, mostly couples. Deb and Kevin, Sue and Kevin and others I’m sure. That was a LONG time ago. Gary and I separated in 1996. Gary is a good guy. Not to be confused with my current husband.
Camping came to an end when I met John. Shar and I were long over until I meeting him but I still was friends with her. He actually ended that friendship for many years once I was under his thumb.  I still had many nice pieces of camping gear,  that I wound up selling for pennies on the dollar. Now I wish I kept my fishing rods, tents, sleeping bags, portable shower, cot, fishing vest, tackle box, bait can, etc.
Roughing it with John meant we had to stay at a Sheraton or even worse a Hotel 6/Super 8. These were below John. He wanted 4 stars or better and that didn’t mean 4 stars sewn on your tent by a boy scout.

Sept 11, 2004

It was a fateful fall day back in 2004. I was out exercising by taking a walk through Red Lion, PA. The sky was sunny and I was breaking a sweat walking up RT 24 towards Cape Horn Shopping Center in Dallastown. As I broke the top of the hill I looked down upon Dallastown and the flurry of traffic coming and going. While i took a few minutes to catch my breath i called my bbf, Jean and wished her a happy birthday. She was in the middle of gambling in Atlantic City, a trip I desperately wanted to go on. All our close friends were going, Scott, Malinda, Bob, Kim and Dave. But, I was a single mom of two and couldn’t justify gambling. We chatted just a few more minutes and I turned around to head back home and Jean went back to gambling. I had a few things to get done by noon and one of them was running my sons back out to Cape Horn to go to Blockbuster Video.

That trip to Blockbuster to return “The Punisher” on Sept. 11,2004 changed my life forever!!! Little did I know, I was meeting “The Punisher” and would become his next victim for 7 plus years.

Next blog….Blockbuster:slightly damaged selection

rebirth by fire

My neighbor’s mobile home went up in flames 9/11/10.  What is it with that date?  Sept 11, 2001 Twin Towers, Pentagon, plane are taken down.  Sept 11, 2004, I was taken down by Jhole.  That’s a whole other story there.  Actually, I really need to think out how I’m going to tell my story of 9/11/04.  Anyway, I got side tracked.  I’m back.

So Dave, my neighbor, has a fire in his home.  We saw the smoke clearly and I ran through the woods.  There’s a dirt type road between our homes.  More stone than dirt honestly.  Walking it has risks.  Twisted ankles, scrapes from twigs, poison ivy, oak and sumac.  Like one type of poison isn’t enough from Mother Nature.  I get to the top of the hill…

Smoke was pouring out of his home and his truck wasn’t there, but he wasn’t answering his cell.  I went to check his parents and passed him.  He had been washing his truck at their house when the police arrived.

Dragon’s breath flames shot out open windows while the firefighters punched out the closed ones.  It seemed to melt in slow motion into its self.  Dave mobile burned quickly and kicked off heat.  The gas bottles were already moved so no fear of a sudden large explosion.  The beautiful big screen tv began to bow to the flames and her frame succumbing to the fiery beast.   A small four-wheeler parked outside the porch door began to drip around the hand grips.  Dave’s sons helmet obviously wasn’t fireproof as it became elongated, similar to an egg.  The inner foam bubbled up and oozed off the visor, like contaminated yoke ready to fry.

The kids were fascinated and I likewise.  After the fire was out and declared safe people began poking around.  That was around 5pm if I recall correctly.  Around 4 am it caught on fire again.  Damn that beast.  9/11/10….another day in flames.

Now things are different.  The fire was from a bad electric adapter, or possibly an extension cord.  Doesn’t really matter.  All is going well.  He has a girlfriend now and he and his sons are alive.  They might have lost everything but their clothes on their back that day and dad’s truck but Dave didn’t let that keep him from starting over.  It was a fresh start for his family and…..he had a clean truck.

Rush PA the paperwork….sit and wait, then SURPRISE!!

Hello Pennsylvania….a commonwealth…good ole PA. Really, all the paperwork I fill out for you? The forms, receipts, copies..in triplicate!
You have my social security number, issued my driver’s license, approved my name changed prior to a final divorce decree. I report my earnings, my child support, alimony, where I live, how much we eat.
Sweet Commonwealth, I have such trust in you. I rush the forms and receipts you need to process my tuition funds. Not once, but twice. The second copy of the receipt for college books needed in the next term marked “Please Rush” in desperation of check delivery.

Mail, on the kitchen table….from PA!! For me, my fundage for school books problemo. Tearing open the envelope, impressed at the speed of my new caseworker response. This dude is like my 5 caseworker. Why shuffle us around like cards? I hate retelling a new social worker all the BS on how I got in this perdicament…. Thinking as I tear, “how long will this take? how will I handle any differences in the funds?”
I stop breathing. Ok, actually was holding my breath. I see at the top of the paper one simple black checkmark. In a little box, as usual for the government’s forms. Denied. What?! DENIED?! I have professors lending me books until my funds come in! What state employee dropped the ball this time?

PA, at times a generous commonwealth, assists me in going to college. Wonderful…almost a full scholarship for my associates degree. I am blessed.
Unfortunatly I am cursed by the PA Assistance Program. Each department in PA appears to run independantly. Very little communication between state worker’s in Labor & Industry, Welfare, Domestics, etc. One department approves a scholarship, another childcare assistance. Food stamps here but child support and alimony over there. Special allowance for mileage in my Commonwealth purchased vehicle so I can drive my daughter to daycare, pick her up when it’s my custody time, buy groceries to feed my family on their tab. Special allowance for a MathLab CD….but when the serious tab (about $400 for this term) is documented and delivered twice…DENIED. Sigh…appeal.
